DAS Energy PV system on a listed castle in Baden-Württemberg

The Yburg. High up on the mountain cone, the historic building, which probably dates back to the 13th or 14th century, has been the landmark of the Rebland region for many years and has combined tradition and innovation in a remarkable way since 2024: a state-of-the-art DAS Energy PV system has been producing sustainable green energy on the renovated roof of the current "Schweizerhaus" restaurant since 2024.

The restaurant was built in 1892 over the foundation walls of the former palace.
The challenge was to integrate a photovoltaic system into the historic architecture in such a way that the appearance of the surroundings remained visually unaffected. Thanks to our 2.5 mm thin and lightweight photovoltaic modules developed and produced in Austria, we were able to create an aesthetically pleasing and highly efficient solution.

The solar system, which was installed under the following monument protection criteria

  • does not affect the appearance of the monument by its appearance or weight
  • does not interfere with the fabric of the listed building
  • blends seamlessly into the tile covering or roof environment in terms of color and structure
  • does not require any intervention in the existing structure by means of fastening aids (no substructure)
  • and offers cable routing that runs invisibly in the roof structure.

Since 2022, the state of Baden-Württemberg has made it easier to install photovoltaic systems on listed buildings. "Many owners of listed buildings, especially churches, want to make a contribution to climate protection. We are responding to this wish with the new guidelines," said Minister Nicole Razavi, Minister for State Development and Housing in Baden-Württemberg.
